Description
Laguna 69 is one of the most famous hikes in Huaraz and Perú, and one of the Cordillera Blanca's most recognisable landscapes. The route crosses quebrada Demanda, in Parque Nacional Huascarán, through vast high-Andean meadows and small glacier-fed lakes.
Along the way, Pisco, Yanapaccha, Chopicalqui and Chacraraju appear, accompanying the climb to the lake. On arrival, the landscape changes completely: intensely turquoise waters are surrounded by rock walls, waterfalls and glaciers, with the imposing Chacraraju rising directly behind. Its glaciers feed the lake directly, making this one of the Cordillera Blanca's most spectacular landscapes.
The hike is usually done in a single day, but it can also become a two-day trip with a night at Refugio Perú, an excellent option for those wishing to enjoy the surroundings more slowly.
