Description
Laguna Librón stands out for its intensely blue waters and peaceful surroundings.
Access begins along a dirt road used by a mine. The route is not always clear, and in several stretches, the many livestock tracks can make identifying the correct trail difficult. We therefore recommend taking a map and following the route with a GPS app.
You can continue to the Siete Esmeraldas viewpoint (+200 m of elevation gain), which offers a panoramic view of the lake and several smaller glacial lakes.
To make the most of the outing, we recommend spending the previous night in Chacas. This lets you explore this lovely village and leave early for the lake the following day.
Did you know?
Small lakes have formed above the lake as a result of glacial retreat. Meltwater collects in them and continues downstream to feed laguna Librón. When its level rises, Librón naturally releases excess water through its outlet channel.
